Large events and shows have a significant economic impact on the place where they are held and its surroundings, but they also have consequences for the environment. Specifically, it is estimated that a person who attends a music festival generates a carbon footprint of approximately 500 kg of CO2. A piece of information that would correspond to the round trip displacement. But this figure may still be higher, since it is estimated that it can rise to 1,500 kg when extensive trips are made to attend these appointments.
The growing interest in preserving the environment and reducing the impact of events has led some music bands, such as Coldplay, to taken measures to reduce CO2 emissions. Other groups, like Radiohead, too promoters are required to take environmental measures concerts or festivals before signing contracts to perform. However, the situation does not only affect music festivals, but also it is also detected and similar in other events sports, political rallies or religious vigils, among others.
To try to reduce or minimize the impact, two companies have just announced their alliance to work in this line with their respective technologies. These are the Aragonese Libelium, specialized in IoT solutions, and Circular Unity, whose activity focuses on the development of software for measuring and managing the environmental impact of events to achieve maximum sustainability.
Both companies will work together in measure, reduce and certify the carbon footprint in holding events in order to introduce eco-friendly practices and the promotion of environmental responsibility in the events industry. To achieve these objectives, Circular Unity will use the technological solution provided by Libelium.
Specifically, the technological solution of the Aragonese company allows collect real-time data regarding resource consumption and other parameters key to assessing the environmental impact of an event.
These data will be integrated into the Circular Unity platform to be processed and analyzed in order to obtain a comprehensive assessment of the carbon footprint generated. In fact, with Libelium’s technology, it is possible to carry out precise measurements and certify the carbon footprint in real time during festivals or other types of events.
In this way, it is possible have a detailed report carbon footprint, apart from generating economic, social, environmental, circularity and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) reports.
This system, based on cutting-edge technologies, will allow event organizers to make decisions with this information and to shape a future in which celebrations, regardless of their size, leave a positive mark on the planet.
In addition, the solution will also make it easier to enjoy the different events in a conscious and respectful way with the environment.
