The explosion first occurred near the Sahib Al-Zaman Mosque in the southern Iranian city of Kerman, among people marching to the grave in protest. It was 3.04 pm local time. A second blast occurred 13 minutes later among the retreating men. The head of Kerman Emergency Service Mohammad Swabari announced that 103 people have died. More than 140 people were injured. The death toll may rise.
No one claimed responsibility for the blast. It was concluded that the bombs placed in the garbage dumps in the area were operated by remote control.
In 2020, Qasim Soleimani was killed in a US drone attack in Iraq. He was one of the most influential figures after Iran’s supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, as head of the Quds Force.
The massive blasts that rocked the country near the famous Gulzar Shuhada in Kerman came amid thousands of people attending the commemoration ceremony. Gulzar Shuhada is the place where 1024 martyrs are buried.
