Hyderabad: A gang of 8 members entered a house in the suburbs of Hyderabad in Telangana state and threatened and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl at knife point, causing a great shock. Opposition parties including the Congress are protesting that the culprits should be found and punished accordingly.
The victim and her 14-year-old brother have lost their parents. As a result, they moved to a relative’s house in Meerpet only a few weeks ago. At the time of the incident, both of them were inside the house with the neighbor’s children. Then a gang of 8 people entered the house. The gang threatened the girl with a knife and sexually assaulted her. While some of the gang threatened the other children at knifepoint, the rest carried the girl upstairs and brutalized her.
People and Congress workers besieged the house of Mirpet Mayor Parijatha Reddy to spread the word about the incident. Following the public outcry, police security has been deployed around the Mayor’s house.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner DS Chauhan visited the spot in person. LG Nagar Deputy Commissioner B. Saisree said, “7 special teams have been formed to trace the culprits. A case of collective sexual violence has been registered. A case has also been registered under the POCSO Act.”
The victim girl has been sent to Sakhi Center for medical examination. Police said their statements are being recorded. Police said they are looking for the culprits based on the CCTV footage. They said that they are also investigating whether the criminals had previous enmity with the family of the victim girl.
