The government has decided to honor the family members of organ donors. The state government has decided to use choppers to transport the organs donated by brain dead patients from district hospitals to teaching hospitals. It seems that the government has taken these decisions to encourage more people to donate organs. The government has paid special attention to ensure that more organ transplant surgeries are done in government hospitals. For this, storage units will be set up in government hospitals to preserve the organs. Awareness camps will be organized in the districts and training will be given to the staff.
The government is making preparations to set up 9 transplantation theaters in government hospitals. The government has set up an organization called ‘Jeevandan’ to encourage organ donation of the deceased. Awareness programs on organ donation are being carried out by this organization. It is campaigning with the slogan ‘Donating organs is better than burying them in soil’. The health department says that currently 3280 people have registered for organs under this program.
So far, the government has collected 4316 organs from 1142 people through this program. The government says that the number of people donating organs has increased after Corona. Minister Harish Rao suggested to the authorities to conduct organ transplants in government hospitals to compete with private hospitals. Medicine and neurology doctors have been ordered to work together in district hospitals. Patients who do not respond to treatment in the ICU are advised to be declared brain dead. Harish Rao said that state and district level hospitals should coordinate and ensure continuous availability of donor organs.
