The Telangana government has objected to the two proposed projects being built by the Rnataka government. Upper Tunga has sought suspension of permits for Upper Bhadra projects. A letter was written to the Central Water Board to this effect. In the letter, Telangana ENC Muralidhar said that projects should not be allowed without taking into account international issues and tribunal judgments. He objected that the flow from Tungabhadra to Krishna would be reduced if these projects were allowed. He said it would have a serious impact on the interests of the state of Telangana. He appealed that the needs of the lower states should also be taken into consideration.
In this letter to the Directorate of Project Appraisal, ENC Muralidhar reminded that the Bachawat Tribunal has not made any allocation for the Upper Tunga and Upper Bhadra projects. Despite the allocations of the Brijesh Tribunal, cases are pending in the Supreme Court. It is learned that the Upper Bhadra project has already been accorded national status by the Central Government.
