Kharagpur: The police are investigating the suicide of a student from Telangana who was studying at IIT Kharagpur in West Bengal.
K.Kiran Chandra, a student from Telangana at Kharagpur IIT, was a fourth-year student staying in the hostel. Kiran was talking with his companions till 7:30 pm last night. They seem to have moved on after that. He also reportedly went to his room. The door has been locked for a long time. After this, his hostel friends had opened the door and looked. Then he is recovered from hanging. Subsequently, he was taken to the hospital. Doctors who examined him declared him dead. A report has been published by IIT in this regard.
Subsequently, the police department was informed. Police are investigating the matter. His body has been sent to the hospital for postmortem. According to data shared by the Ministry of Education, from 2018 to 2023, at least 39 of the total 98 suicide deaths in India’s higher education institutions were reported to have occurred in IITs.
