Telangana.The possibilities of eight workers trapped there are constantly decreasing since a part of the Tunnel of Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project collapsed in Nagrakurnaul district of Telangana (Telangana) on Saturday. Due to the ever increasing water level and mud, there has been a lot of problems in Rescue Operation.
To save eight people (Tunnel), the Indian Geological Survey (GSI) and the National Geological Research Institute (NGRI) have taken help from experts to suggest the way forward. The District Magistrate said, till now we have not been able to contact them (trapped people). We are seeking advice from the Indian Geological Survey and some others. Right now we are draining water and moving forward. But we have not been able to reach the last 40 or 50 meters.
An official said on Tuesday that eight people are stranded on the fourth day, so GSI and NGRI experts have been included in rescue efforts. District Magistrate of Nagarakurnool B.K. Santosh said on Tuesday that before taking any further steps, the stability of the tunnel has been taken into consideration and the work of extracting water is going on. Apart from experts from the Geological Survey of India and National Geographical Research Institute, L&T’s Australian unit has also been included. Those who have widespread experience about tunnel.

The tunnel boring machine has slipped about 200 meters ahead due to rising water. Apart from this, the conveyor belt that removes debris has also been damaged. Due to which rescue work had to be stopped for some time. A team of ‘Rat Minors’, who saved workers trapped in the Silkyara Bend-Berkot tunnel in Uttarakhand in 2023, have joined the rescue teams to evacuate people trapped in the SLBC tunnel. The Chief Minister of Telangana has directed the officials that no efforts should be left in efforts to save the trapped people.
