Both teams did not score any goals in the first half of the somewhat boring match. Kerala Blasters had the upper hand in the beginning but slowly Bengaluru FC also started making progress. Relics of last season’s struggles could be seen in the players of both teams. But the same quality was not seen in the game.
In the first half where nothing much happened, only breakthroughs here and there kept the fans excited. But the second half was completely different. Kerala Blasters started trying to take the lead at the beginning of the second half. The Blasters’ forward line was alert and played in the Bengaluru goal. It soon bore fruit.
In the 52nd minute of the match, Kerala Blasters took a decisive lead by thrilling the Yellow Sea at Kochi’s Kalur Stadium. The first goal of the 10th season of the Indian Super League was scored. The goal came from a free kick taken by Kerala Blasters captain Adrian Luna.
The ball that Luna extended to Bengaluru FC’s box went towards the Blasters players. Danish Farooq and Jackson Singh tried to put the ball inside the net, but the Bengaluru player hit Weendorp’s body and the ball went into the net. So the first goal of the season turned out to be an own goal.
In the 69th minute, Adrian Luna took advantage of Bengaluru FC goalkeeper Gurpreet’s mistake and scored. Gurpreet was unable to control the ball given by the Bengaluru defender.
