This afternoon, the beaches of Jumeirah in Dubai will witness a traditional marine sports event, bringing together more than 40 boats competing for first places in the Dubai 22-foot local sailing boat race, within the second round of the Dubai Championship.
The Dubai International Marine Sports Club, the organizer of the event, said in a press statement that the race is of great importance as it brings together the rising generation of people of the sea, as the competition will intensify between the participants for the titles of two categories, the first for youth and the second for juniors, as well as the first places in today’s race for the sake of competition. At the top of the overall standings with the conclusion of the races in this category in the 2024-2025 season.
The race organizing committee has completed all arrangements to make the demonstration a success, in coordination with government departments and national institutions, as the race will be held in front of Jumeirah beaches, between landmarks and the Dubai waterfront, near the World Islands, Palm Jumeirah Island, and the Burj Al Arab Hotel, for a distance of more than five nautical miles from the starting place to the finish line. The route will be set according to sea conditions and wind speeds and directions.
It is noteworthy that, last September, the Dubai International Marine Sports Club organized the first round race competitions of the Dubai Local 22-foot Sailing Boat Championship at the opening of the races of the 2024-2025 marine sports season. The race achieved great success with the participation of 50 boats, which sailed in the same place in front of the beaches. Jumeirah, and competed for the titles of the youth and junior categories.
The first round race witnessed the victory of the boat “Hashim 81”, belonging to Al Fattan Shipbuilding Company, and captained by Nokhatha Mohammed Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, the title of the youth category under 21 years, while the boat “Sarab 67”, owned by Mohammed Sultan Al Marzouki, and captained by Al Nokhadha Sultan Muhammad Sultan.
