One of the artillery shells hit the power unit of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as a result of the shelling of the plant by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). This was announced on Sunday, September 4, by the head of the military-civilian administration (MAC) of Energodar, Alexander Volga, in an interview with TASS.
“One of the hits – through – was in the power unit, [это был] artillery shell,” he said.
The head of the CAA specified that this power unit was inoperative.
Volga noted that the security system of power units has a structure that cannot be broken by a single hit. However, he stressed that it is necessary to make decisions against the backdrop of such incidents.
According to him, the radiation background on the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP is constantly measured, there is no reason for concern.
Earlier in the day, Volga reported that a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the agency’s director general, during a visit to the ZNPP, looked at fragments of rockets fired by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The day before, representatives of the Ukrainian state enterprise Energoatom reported that the fifth block of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant was disconnected from energy resources after intensive shelling of the station by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Also on September 3, Vladimir Rogov, a member of the Zaporizhia Oblast CAA, noted that the ZNPP in Energodar had been shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine at least four times in two hours. He clarified that the Ukrainian troops used heavy artillery.
