ANKARA (AA) – Niger’s military administration has cut off water and electricity to the French embassy in the capital city of Niamey, and food delivery to the embassy is not allowed, according to several messages published on social networks, reports Anadolu.
The country’s leadership has taken similar steps for the French consulate in Zinder.
The chairman of the National Committee for Support of the National Council for the Protection of the Country (CNSP), El Issa Hassoumi Bureima, has asked all partners of the French bases in Niger to stop all deliveries of water and electricity, as well as food products, according to the the allegations.
It added that any partners that continue to help the French in the process of supplying goods and services will be considered “enemies of the sovereign people”.
The allegations come after the two-day deadline that the military administration gave the French ambassador to leave the country expired yesterday.
Amid tensions that have risen in the weeks since the ouster of the West African nation’s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazum, the administration’s foreign ministry has given Ambassador Sylvan Ite 48 hours to “leave the territory of Niger.”
Niger has been plunged into unrest since July 26 when General Abdurahaman Tchiani, a former commander of the presidential guard, led a military intervention that ousted President Bazum.
France launched an operation earlier this month to evacuate its citizens as well as other nationals from Niamey.
