Volodymyr Saldo, acting head of the Kherson region, said that the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station could be restored in the future. He spoke about this on Wednesday, June 14, at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
“As soon as the water levels out, we will take measurements. The dam at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station is subject to restoration, ”TASS quotes Saldo.
Earlier that day, he noted that the Kherson region was able to survive the disaster at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station with minimal casualties. He stressed that after the water comes down after the dam break, one of the important tasks will be to ensure sanitary and environmental safety in the emergency zone.
Also on Wednesday, the head of the government of the region, Andrey Alekseenko, stressed that the water in the Kherson region after the breakthrough of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station will completely disappear by June 20. The damage from the flood will be about 40 billion rubles, its assessment is still ongoing.
The terrorist attack at the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6, which led to an uncontrolled discharge of water. As a result, dozens of settlements, including Kherson and New Kakhovka, were almost completely flooded. The station is almost submerged.
On the fact of the destruction of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station and the flooding of territories, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on a terrorist attack.
