The Director of the National Basketball Teams, Rashid Al Naqbi, confirmed that the first team is entering the “Al Dhafra International” competitions, which began yesterday and will extend until the beginning of next September, amid five influential absences of its members, whether due to injury or work commitments.
Al Naqbi told Al-Emarat Al-Youm: “The team is missing Qais Omar, who recently underwent surgery, and Mamadou Mohammed, who is still recovering from a previous injury, in addition to the absence of three other players due to work commitments: Omar Al-Amri, Hassan Al-Shaiba, and Saif Hamed.”
He added: “The national team will gather for four days between the 18th and 22nd of this month in Dubai, in preparation for participating in the Al Dhafra Championship, which is an additional opportunity for the young players to prove themselves and gain more playing experience against various schools.”
He continued: “The participation comes within the team’s preparation map for the second window of the final stage of the Asian qualifiers for the (Asian Cup), and the rise to the (A) classification level, which allows participation in Asian championships, in addition to competing for the qualifying cards for the World Cup.”
He explained: “The preparation plans also include participation in the Arab Championship for national teams from November 8 to 18, and immediately after the Arab Championship is over, the team will head to Lebanon to hold an external camp before starting the second step of the final stage in the Asian qualifiers.”
