The national basketball team leaves today, heading to Turkey, to hold a six-day outdoor camp, as part of its preparations for the second window of the Asian qualifiers, which will be held in Qatar during the period from 20 to 22 this month.
The technical director of the national team, Dr. Mounir bin Al Habib, told Emirates Al Youm: “The team list includes the 16 players who participated in the Dubai International Basketball Championship, which represented an important stage in terms of giving new faces and young elements opportunities to interact with the elite clubs in the two Asian continents. And the African, before heading to the Turkey camp, which extends for six days, in the second of the stations preparing for the second window of the Asian qualifiers, followed by returning to Dubai for a day of rest, and then heading to Qatar 13 this year to participate in the (Doha International) championship, with the participation of the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia teams.
He added: «The national team is going through friendly experiences with Turkish clubs, with the possibility of meeting the Lebanese wisdom present in the same period in Turkey, in experiences during which we look forward to continuing the work plans that we started with in (Dubai basket) in terms of benefiting from friction experiences, especially for the new faces that register their presence. For the first time, and gradually upgrading the factor of harmony with the elements of experience.
And he continued: «The Qatari Federation extended an invitation to participate in its international championship, which in turn represents the third stations of the preparations, during which Al-Abyad will meet on the 14th of this month, the host of the Qatari team, followed by the meeting with the Saudi team on the 17th of the same month, provided that the team continues its preparation in Qatar until entering The matches of the second window of the Asian qualifiers will be on February 20, and it will begin with the Kuwaiti national team, followed by the matches between Iraq and Palestine.
The team enters the second window, and it shares three points with the Iraqi national team, and is behind by a point difference from each of the leading teams of Palestine and Qatar, and “Al-Abyad” is superior by a point difference from each of Kuwait and Oman, who participate in the last place.
It is noteworthy that the national team participated in the 32nd edition of the Dubai International Basketball Championship, and bid farewell to the tournament in the quarter-finals, losing to Beirut, Lebanon (73-76).
