This year has been a great one for sports, but it is nearing a close.
In this article, we take a look at some of the biggest sporting events remaining before the turn of the year.
The first of these events is Survivor Series, an annual pay-per-view run by WWE every November, which has been the case since 1987. The promotion’s second-longest PPV event comes around every Thanksgiving week – WrestleMania is the only one that has been around longer.
Survivor Series is one of WWE’s five major events of the year. Apart From WrestleMania, there’s also SummerSlam, the Royal Rumble, and Money in the Bank. It features tag team elimination matches, pitting four or five superstars against each other. They went off course last year, however, as the 2022 iteration did not include any Survivor Series or elimination matches, focusing instead on War Games as the event was branded Survivor Series: WarGames.
Earlier this year, WWE announced it will be returning to Rosemont, Chicago for 2023’s 37th Survivor Series on November 25. This will be the third such event at this venue since 1989. The show aired from there in 2019 as well.
The episode of the previous night’s SmackDown will also be held in the same location.
Big 12 Championship
The Big 12 Championship Game is scheduled for December 2. The fixture is held by said conference every year and pits the best and second-best teams in the conference against each other.
It had been hosted every year since the conference was formed in 1996 and stopped in 2010, returning during the 2017 campaign. The first run saw the Big 12 North Division Champion take on the South Division Champion but, since its return, the two teams with the best records in the conference face off instead.
The game will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas as there is a deal in place to see to that until 2030. This year’s game will feature Texas against either Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, or Kansas State as the Longhorns have already secured the conference’s best record.
This game will attract lots of attention from fans and, considering the legalization of betting around the country, will also prompt lots of action from sports betting apps in Kentucky, which is among the latest states to have betting legalized.
UFC 296, scheduled for December 16 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, is the last event on the MMA promotion’s 2023 calendar. The lineup was announced at UFC 295 on November 11 as Leon Edwards and Colby Covington were named as the two men set to go head-to-head in the main event.
Edwards is gearing up to defend his welterweight championship against Covington while the undercard boasts matchups between Shavkat Rakhmonov and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson plus Vicente Luque vs. Ian Machado Garry.
The co-main event will see flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja defend his title against Brandon Royval. A lightweight affair between former interim champ Tony Ferguson and the undefeated Paddy Pimblett closes the main card.

The Peach Bowl is another annual college football bowl game. This one has been taking place in Atlanta, Georgia since 1968 and has been sponsored by Chick-fil-A since 1997, which is why its official name is the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.
The first three bowls were hosted by Georgia Tech’s Grant Field. The Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium hosted the fixture from 1971 to 1993 before it moved to the Georgia Dome in 1993, where it was played until 2016.
The game was moved to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017 and has been part of the New Year’s Six, which features college playoff games since 2013. The Peach Bowl has been a national semi-final in four years since then. This year, the Penn State Nittany Lions are predicted to go up against the Tulane Green Wave.
Penn State is expected to beat Michigan State in the finale and finish the season with two losses after dropping games to Ohio State and Michigan. Tulane is the top team in the Group of Five and is predicted to finish the season as AAC champions.
