The logistics center that the electronic commerce giant Amazon inaugurated on April 17 in El Far d’Empordà (Alt Empordà) can ship more than 600,000 daily orders, which it will distribute mainly to its area of influence, northern Catalonia , southern France and Spain, but also through other European countries.
The center, which occupies a total area of 150,000 square meters spread over three floors of 50,000 square meters (the equivalent of 22 soccer fields) and has involved an investment of around 200 million euros.
200 million
It has involved an investment of 200 million euros and its facilities, located in the Logis Empordà, occupy an area of 150,000 square meters
The most numerous is the warehouse worker, but the most qualified positions related to the field of robotics and artificial intelligence also stand out, one of the main hallmarks of this plant. The average salary is around 1,380 euros per month.

More than 3,000 robots are in charge of moving the 20,000 shelves where the products arriving at the plant are stored.
The general manager of the El Far d’Empordà center, Jordi Bellana, highlighted today during a visit with the press to its facilities that “it is the first robotic logistics center that Amazon opens in Europe in 2023”.
This translates into more than 3,000 robots, capable of moving the 20,000 shelves in the center where employees deposit the products that arrive at the logistics center and at the same time bring them closer to the staff with the product chosen by the customer. A loaded rack can weigh up to a ton.
Inventoried products
The center has inventoried some 5 million products and expects to reach 25 million
Bellana points out that they already have a total of five million products in inventory, but the center can store a total of 25 million products on these shelves. More than half of the inventory comes from SMEs. Only in Spain there are up to 13,000 that supply Amazon.
On the other hand, Fred Pattje, general director of Amazon Customer Fulfillment in France, Italy and Spain, points out that “Catalonia plays a fundamental role for Amazon”. The multinational employs more than 7,300 people in Catalonia and Pattje underlines the “strategic” location of the center of El Far d’Empordà, a few kilometers from the French border.
