New Delhi: The central government has said that it is unable to comment on the bill against online gambling pending with the Governor of Tamil Nadu. This was given in response to a question raised by DMK MP Tamilachi Thangapandian in the Lok Sabha today.
In a question raised by South Chennai MP Tamilachi Thangapandian in the Parliamentary Lok Sabha, “The Governor of Tamil Nadu has not yet given approval to the bill related to online gambling. So far 40 youths have died in Tamil Nadu after losing money in online gambling. What action is the central government going to take to prevent this?” He had asked.
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav’s response to that today said, “It is not possible to give an answer here about a specific issue in a state. 19 states have brought a bill related to online gambling. If all the states come forward, the government will discuss bringing a bill at the national level.
Therefore, it is not possible to comment on the fact that the Governor has shelved the Tamil Nadu Online Gambling Bill,” the minister replied.
