The colt “Lusail” of “Al Shaqab Racing” won the title of the seventh leg of the 31st edition of the President of the UAE Cup for Purebred Arabian Horses, which was held at Doncaster Racecourse in Britain the day before yesterday, at the conclusion of the English Arabian Derby.
The 2020-born colt, Lusail, descended from “Al Murtajaz X Doha Bint Munjiz” under the supervision of trainer Francois Roho and ridden by Ortiz Mendzabal, succeeded in winning the Cup race and achieving his third victory out of six participations, as he was able to record an important victory after a strong performance at the end of the race held in the first category over a distance of 2000 meters, and decided the last meters in his favor by a head ahead of “Extra Time” “Valent Boy X Sand Witch Bint Burning Sand” for owner Jay Nevins, under the supervision of trainer David Morrison and ridden by jockey Taj O’Shea, while “Malfat” (Al Murtajaz X Jesabelle Des Forges Bint Al Sakbi) came in third place for owner Mohammed bin Fahad Al Attiyah, under the supervision of trainer Francois Roho and ridden by jockey Lucas Delozier.
The champion was able to complete the race distance in 02:21.81 minutes, while the race witnessed the participation of elite Arabian horses representing the best studs in Britain and Europe.
The race was attended by the General Supervisor of the President’s Cup Series for Purebred Arabian Horses, Faisal Al Rahmani, who crowned and presented the cups to trainer Francois Roho and jockey Ortiz Mendzabal, the cup champions.
For his part, Al Rahmani said: “We express our pride and appreciation for the impressive success achieved by the seventh leg in Doncaster, Britain, after watching a distinguished race from all aspects, with the participation of the elite of promising horses and the fierce competition, in addition to the distinguished public presence, media interest and wide promotional echoes for the event.” He added: “The race reflected the prestigious status of the precious cup and its strong presence in the scene of the ancient English racing.”
