The Moscow City Court commuted the sentence of blogger Edward Beal in the case of an accident in the center of Moscow, an Izvestia correspondent reports from the courtroom on May 25.
Beal was sentenced to 1 year and 2 months in a penal colony, he was taken into custody in the courtroom. He was also deprived of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of three years.
The state prosecution requested that the blogger be sentenced to imprisonment for a term of one year and four months. At the same time, representatives of Maria Artemova, who suffered in an accident, asked Bila to choose a punishment not related to real imprisonment.
At a meeting on May 25, the court changed the additional punishment in terms of driving to 2.5 years.
In early April last year, in the center of the capital, Biel’s sports car flew into the oncoming lane, resulting in a resonant accident, five cars were damaged. As part of the investigation, it was found that the blogger was driving at a speed of 115 kilometers per hour. It also became known that the Audi that Beal was driving was deregistered and drove with fake numbers. At the same time, since the beginning of 2021, over 400 traffic violations have been committed on this vehicle.
As a result of the incident, the driver of Volkswagen, State Duma consultant Maria Artemovna, received serious injuries. She was diagnosed with a closed craniocerebral injury, as well as a contusion of the brain, ruptures of internal organs and open fractures of the legs and a fracture of the pelvis. For all this, the blogger was sentenced to two years of restriction of freedom and deprived of his rights for three years.
As a result, Bill was sentenced to two years of restriction of liberty. The prosecutor appealed the decision of the court. The process starts over. For the blogger, only the measure of restraint has been extended so far.
On July 14, the Presnensky Court of the capital sentenced the blogger to two years of restriction of freedom with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for three years. In July, the prosecutor’s office appealed the blogger’s sentence for an accident as “excessively lenient”. At the end of October 2021, the court’s verdict was asked to be canceled and the case sent for a new trial to the court of first instance.
