The most harmful to the teeth are brushes with natural, hard, sparse or multi-level bristles. Ilya Sklyarov, an orthopedic dentist, spoke about this on September 21.
“No matter how strange it may sound, but not all natural is equally useful – in the case of toothbrushes, bristles made from natural materials are much more active in collecting bacteria. It is very difficult to clean a brush with natural fibers from the bacterial flora that is in the oral cavity, ”the doctor explained in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.
He also pointed out that such bristles would fall out and the brush would not last very long.
When choosing a brush with synthetic bristles, according to the dentist, it is necessary to take into account the size of the head of the product. It should not be too small or excessively large, and the bristles should not be sparse and stiff. Otherwise, you can damage the gums and tooth enamel.
Sklyarov also added that the toothbrush bristles should not be multilevel.
“For a long time, manufacturers of oral hygiene products have produced many varieties of brushes with bristles of different heights, motivated by the fact that such bristles clean hard-to-reach places better. However, it turned out that this is not the case – only smooth and thick bristles are able to clean all surfaces of the teeth with high quality. With an even bristle, each bristle is involved in the cleaning process, ”the dentist emphasized.
On September 20, dentist Nikolai Ozherelyev spoke about the dangers of sleeping on his side. According to him, the habit of sleeping on the stomach or side with an open mouth causes pressure on one side of the face, causing the jaws to deviate from their neutral position, and the chewing system is injured.
