Al Wasl player Caio Canedo stressed the difficulty of facing his neighbor Al Nasr in today’s anticipated match, in the third round of the ADNOC Professional League at Zabeel Stadium.
He told Al-Emarat Al-Youm: “It is a very difficult match for several reasons, most notably its importance to the fans, in addition to the good level presented by the competitor in the current season.”
He added: “Al Wasl, in turn, achieved an ideal start in its important participation in the AFC Champions League for the elite, by winning away from home against Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan by one goal to none, scored by Moroccan Sofiane Bouftini,” noting that “this victory motivates the team morally before the (derby).”
He explained: “The AFC Champions League is very important for Al Wasl, especially since the team is participating in the continental competition after a five-year absence. Against Pakhtakor, we knew how to play away from home against a physically strong team, as the match was tactically complicated, but we succeeded in controlling the course of the game.”
He spoke about the ambitions of the “Panthers” in the AFC Champions League for the elite, and said: “We seek to go far in the tournament, because if we did not believe in that, we would not have participated in the first place, and we must take into account that we can compete for the title despite the difficulty of the task, but Al Wasl is a giant team, and always plays based on the fact that it is one of the big teams that plays to win in any tournament in which it participates.”
“We always need to play with great focus and pay attention to the smallest details in every match. In our match against Pakhtakor, we had the advantage in many aspects, as we dealt well in defence and did not concede any goals, while we must be more focused in finishing attacks, especially since the team had many chances in the first half, and we could have scored more than one goal,” he continued.
He added: “We played one match, and it is too early to talk about anything, but winning is very important in the first match, and away from home, and we must believe in ourselves and prepare for the upcoming matches.”
“We must show that we have a good group of players and implement what coach Milos Milojevic asks of us, especially since the current season will be more difficult, because Al Wasl achieved the double (league and cup) last season, and all the clubs will play against us with the aim of beating us,” he concluded.
