Dry skin around the elbows and knees can be caused by a variety of factors. On July 15, plastic surgeon Alexander Vdovin spoke about this.
“The skin in the elbow area is quite thin and practically devoid of subcutaneous tissue and sebaceous glands, therefore it is prone to dryness. In the knee area, it is not so thin, but also has a small amount of sebaceous glands and fiber. Therefore, additional care is needed for the skin in these areas, ”the specialist told Arguments and Facts.
Some skin diseases (psoriasis, eczema), endocrine pathologies (diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders), autoimmune diseases, and low iron levels lead to dry elbows and knees.
At the same time, dry skin can be observed in healthy people. This is caused by the habit of putting your elbows on the table, taking a very hot shower, beriberi, age-related features and lack of collagen.
To solve the problem, the same products that are used to soften the skin of the hands and face can be used, Vdovin notes.
“An effective method of skin restoration can be considered the use of natural oils for nourishment and moisturizing – from the simplest olive oil to shea butter, grape seed, peach or apricot, coconut, and petroleum jelly,” the surgeon said.
He also advised to make your own scrub from honey or coffee pomace with the addition of oils, sour cream or cream. It is enough to scrub your elbows once every 7-10 days. After the procedure, it is necessary to apply a nutrient.
On July 1, dermatovenereologist Grigory Ibragimov warned about the dangers of using alcohol and powders in the treatment of burns. According to him, such folk remedies will only worsen the condition of the skin.
On June 28, Tatyana Neumolotova, a general practitioner, warned of the possible development of melanoma from improper tanning. The main factor is sunburn, which can even be considered redness of the skin.
