In the Sakhalin region, the court passed a sentence on a resident of the Nogliki district, who was accused of killing a person in an accident. This was reported by the press service of the regional prosecutor’s office.
It was established that in December 2020, a motorist crashed into an oncoming car while overtaking. The passenger of the second car died on the spot before the ambulance arrived.
“Not pleading guilty to the crime, the defendant gave evidence aimed at misleading the investigation and the court about the reality of the events,” the ministry said in a statement.
The court found the man guilty under Part 3 of Art. 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Violation by a person driving a car of the rules of the road, resulting in the death of a person by negligence.” He was sentenced to four years in prison and deprivation of a driver’s license for two and a half years, writes IA SakhalinMedia.
The court also granted the claim of the mother of the deceased passenger. In her favor, the defendant was charged with the cost of burial and compensation in the amount of 1.5 million rubles. The verdict has not entered into force yet.
