The competitions of the 12th edition of the Dubai International Fitness Championships, which are held with the support of the Dubai Sports Council, begin today at Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai Design District, and conclude at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium on December 10, with the participation of an elite group of the strongest international professionals, both men and women.
The details of the tournament were announced during the press conference, which was held at the headquarters of the Dubai Sports Council and attended by the Assistant Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, Nasser Aman Al Rahma, in which the Director of Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, Ali Omar Al Balushi, and the tournament director, Saud Al Shamsi, spoke.
Ali Omar said: “The tournament has witnessed significant and remarkable development over the past years until it has become one of the largest tournaments in the world, and an elite group of the most prominent and top-ranked athletes in the world, men and women, participate in it. Its continued success has contributed to the creation of new categories, and the participation of Emirati athletes. Within local teams, it gives the tournament more momentum.”
Saud Al Shamsi revealed that the tournament this year witnesses the participation of 108 athletes, including 60 professional men and women participating in the international tournament, and 48 athletes from six Gulf countries participating in the Gulf tournament. He said, “The participation of elite athletes from the highest levels in the world in the tournament enhances Dubai’s position.” A global capital of fitness, with athletes from 24 countries participating, including champions from Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Russia, the United States, Canada, Morocco, and from all over Europe.”
The international tournament includes the participation of 30 men and 30 women, competing in Dubai for a total of more than 1.6 million dirhams in prizes.
This year, the tournament will witness the return of two-time defending champion, Polish Karen Frye, who is seeking to make history as the first athlete to win the title three times in a row.
On the men’s level, Polish champion Luka Dokic and Moritz Vibig enter the competition as the most prominent candidates to win this year’s title, as each of them seeks to achieve their first title in the Dubai Fitness Championship, in addition to the participation of men’s and women’s champions from Germany, New Zealand and Italy.
This year’s tournament will witness the organization of the Gulf Fitness Championship, with the participation of six teams: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman.
Each team consists of eight of the best athletes in their country, who will face each other in a series of competitions aimed at crowning the fittest team in the Gulf.
