The Dutch players in Liverpool’s squad are looking forward to the arrival of their compatriot Arne Sloat to the club competing in the English Premier League to coach the team next season, with captain Virgil van Dijk committed to staying at Anfield.
Van Dijk said that he had already spoken with Slot, and that he was eagerly awaiting next season to work under the leadership of the former Feyenoord coach, who will take over from Jurgen Klopp.
“I still have one year left on my contract,” Van Dijk added while he was in the Netherlands camp preparing for next month’s European Championship. “I am the team captain and I have made it clear that I will be there with the new coach and I am excited for next season. It is clear that there will be a lot of changes but I am confident that we will achieve “Great success.”
“I congratulated him, of course, and I am really happy for him and his family,” Van Dijk told Dutch television. “We talked about the team and the future, but my focus now is entirely with the national team.”
Dutchman Ryan Kravenberg said that Slot proved his abilities with Feyenoord and led them to win the Dutch League title last season and the cup this season.
The 22-year-old midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich last August, said: “I think it will be beneficial for my career. He is a coach who wants to play good football.”
Liverpool announced the signing of Slot last week after Klopp’s departure after nine years with the English club.
