Ayodhya: Following the sports ministry’s directive to suspend all activities of the Indian Wrestling Federation, the federation’s emergency general body meeting scheduled for today (Sunday) has been cancelled. The Ministry has also suspended Assistant Secretary of the Federation Vinod Tomar.
Earlier, the Sports Ministry had ordered an immediate halt to all activities of the wrestling federation, including the qualification tournament in Konda, Uttar Pradesh.
In a statement released by the ministry, it has been stated that “an inquiry committee will be set up to investigate the financial, administrative and sexual allegations leveled against the Indian Wrestling Federation by the wrestlers. All the day-to-day activities of the federation will be canceled until the inquiry committee is formally constituted and the committee takes charge.”
Earlier, leading female wrestlers staged a protest against BJP MP and president of the Indian Wrestling Federation, Brij Bhushan Charan Singh, alleging sexual harassment and harassment. After three days of protest, the protest was called off after an agreement was reached in talks with the Sports Minister. Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Charan Singh has been instructed to step down from the post of chairman till the investigation is over.
