Today, the sixth edition of the Salam Cycling Championship continues, which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and is organized by His Highness’s Office – Procurement and Finance, with the “Desert Fifty Year” race.
The race will be held with the participation of elite cyclists specialized in this type of desert racing in the special track prepared by the organizing committee for a distance of 39 km in the Seih Al Salam area in Dubai.
The launch will be from the “Expo Lake”, which was completed to celebrate the hosting of “Expo 2020” in Dubai, and was designed to resemble the “Expo” logo, in the form of an island within a lake through the use of trees and sand, and constitutes an amazing landscape and architecture that has turned into a destination for residents and visitors to visit. .
The organizing committee made all the arrangements, as it approved the list of participants in the race, provided all safety conditions for the riders through cooperation with government agencies, and prepared the best possible track for this type of race in which the challenge is double between the competition between the riders themselves and the desert track. The head of the championship’s Supreme Organizing Committee, Omair bin Jumaa Al Falasi, said: “Cycling includes different types of competitions that characterize our riders and have achieved wide spread, including the desert bikes, which we organized last year for the first race within the championship.”
He added in a press statement: “We all witnessed the great success achieved by the desert race last year, and we also followed up on the spread of this sport and the increase in the number of its practitioners. All bicycle enthusiasts of all types and levels, which contributes to instilling a culture of love for sports and spreading the concept of the importance of exercise and physical activity in society.”
He explained, “We also seek to take advantage of the pioneering tracks and facilities allocated by the rational government to make Dubai a friendly city for sports, including cycling, which is increasingly popular thanks to the guidance and support of the wise leadership, who are setting an example for us by practicing sports themselves, and emphasizing its importance.”
