Today, the first stage of the first edition of the Emirates Tour for Women 2023 (the only global race in the Middle East) begins today, from Port Rashid in Dubai for a distance of 109 km, to Dubai Harbor, and passing through many famous Dubai landmarks, with the participation of 120 elite world cycling champions, From 20 teams (13 globally – seven continental teams).
Six cycling stars from around the world participated in a press conference held a day before the start of the event, which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council from 9-12 this month. Marta Cavalli of the FDJ-Suez team said: “I am pleased to extend my sincere thanks to all the audience and attendees from the Emirates for the warm reception. As for the championship, my main focus will be on the third stage, which at the same time will be a good opportunity for me to practice my cycling technique against the wind. My team mates will also try to help me as much as possible during the four stages, in addition to our desire to compete in sprints.”
Elisa Longo Borghini of Trek-Segafredo said: “We are happy to be here because we are sure that this event will play a big role in promoting women’s sports and we hope it will inspire people to adopt a healthier and more active lifestyle.
For her part, Lorena Wipes of Team 22 (Team SD Worx), the favorite to win one of the quick stages of the Emirates Women’s Tour, indicated that the competition will be intense to win the title of the first edition.
