The leaders of the G7 countries declared that there will be no hesitation in supporting Ukraine and promised that new steps will be taken to lead to Russia’s failure, reports Anadolia.
The summit of G7 leaders, which is being held in the city of Hiroshima in the southwestern part of Japan, continues under the mandated chairmanship of Japan.
After the extraordinary session, the leaders issued a statement on the situation in Ukraine, where Russia continues its attacks.
The statement promised that it will not hesitate to support Ukraine and that new steps will be taken to prevent Russian aggression.
“We emphasize that a just peace cannot be achieved without the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops and military equipment,” said the leaders of the G7 countries.
The leaders warned third parties to immediately stop providing material support to Russian aggression or face heavy costs.
It was noted that in the context of the reconstruction of Ukraine, “Russia must pay for the damage caused”, and the leaders also promised close cooperation to limit the Russian trade in precious stones.
The statement emphasized that it will continue to support Ukraine against Russia’s “illegal, indefensible and unjustified” war.
“We condemn in the strongest terms Russia’s flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter and the impact this war is having on the rest of the world,” the G7 leaders said.
The leaders of the USA, France, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, Italy and the European Union (EU) are participating in the summit hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio.
The G7 summit will end on May 21.
