Brett Howden scored from behind the net against Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger 1:35 into overtime on Friday to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 4-3 win in Game 1 of the Western playoffs .

It is the third time in four meetings this season that these teams have gone beyond regulation time to determine the winner. The Stars have won twice in the regular season in shootouts.

Roope Hintz and Jason Robertson each scored a goal and added an assist for the Stars. Hintz has 10 goals and 12 assists since the start of the season and has scored in four of the last five games. Joe Pavelski recorded two assists and Oettinger made 33 saves.
