The head of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin on Thursday, December 23, said that chemical weapons were already present in Ukraine.
“Chemical weapons are already present on the territory of Ukraine, whether they will be used or not, it’s a matter of time. I really hope that media coverage, calls <...> will take effect, and Ukraine will not take this very serious and illegal step, “Pushilin said on the air of the Russia 24 TV channel.
He stressed that at the moment no one can give guarantees that Ukraine will not use chemical weapons in the Donbass.
On the eve, the official representative of the people’s militia of the DPR Eduard Basurin said that the United States supplied Ukraine with containers with chemical weapons, which were later transferred to areas near the contact line in Donbass.
In addition, he said that American private military companies (PMCs) are present on the contact line in Donbass, which “prepare firing points” and for this purpose exist to “make provocations and kill people.”
Earlier, on December 21, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the US PMCs are preparing a provocation with chemical components in eastern Ukraine. According to him, there are now more than 120 employees of American PMCs in the Donetsk region, who are training Ukrainian special forces. The minister also noted that the Ukrainian military continues to shell Donbass and the positions of the people’s militia of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), thereby provoking them.
In response, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby stressed that Shoigu’s statement was untrue.
Earlier, on December 11, the DPR accused Ukraine of placing tanks in the cities of Donbass. According to a representative of the people’s militia, Vasilek mortars and T-80 tanks were seen among the deployed equipment and weapons.
Since 2014, Kiev has been conducting a military operation against the residents of Donbass, who refused to recognize the results of the coup and the new government in Ukraine. The settlement issues are being discussed in the Minsk and Normandy formats – with the participation of Ukraine, Russia, France, Germany.
