The following are the most important points contained in the report of the Moroccan Capital Market Authority on foreign investment in financial instruments for the year 2022:
The amounts invested by foreigners in listed shares decreased by 25.3 percent, to reach 156 billion dirhams during the year 2022;
This result is mainly attributed to the negative performance of the stock market.
The total amount of investments of foreigners and Moroccans residing abroad may reach 2.071 billion dirhams;
The share of foreign investments in capitalization, at the end of 2022, amounted to 27.8 percent;
The current debt securities owned by foreigners and Moroccans residing abroad amounted to about 3.9 billion dirhams, compared to 3.6 billion dirhams during the year 2021;
– Foreign investment represents only 0.42% of the total outstanding of debt securities, while more than 86% of the outstanding belongs to non-resident foreign legal persons, followed by resident foreign natural persons (5.6%);
– An analysis of the distribution of outstanding debt securities by financial instrument category showed the dominance of the share of treasury bonds (68 percent);
Foreign investment, in terms of value, recorded a slight decline, from 2.78 billion dirhams in 2021 to 2.63 billion dirhams in 2022, with maturities ranging from 91 days to 30 years.
The share of foreign investment in borrowing bonds showed a remarkable increase during the year 2022, as it passed from 8.7 percent in 2021 to 19.6 percent in 2022, and in terms of value, the outstanding bonds rose to 757 million dirhams, compared to 310 million dirhams. end 2021;
The outstanding certificates of deposit maintained its level recorded a year ago, which settled at 485 million.
