Serbian Novak Djokovic achieved his last victory over Spaniard Rafael Nadal, in the “6 Kings Slam” exhibition tennis tournament, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The British news agency PA Media reported that the two rivals fought 60 matches during their careers, with Djokovic leading with 31 wins compared to Nadal’s 29, but there will be no more matches after Nadal announced his retirement from playing last week, after the Davis Cup tennis competitions in the city of… Malaga, Spain, which will be held next month.
It is not clear that he will compete in the singles competitions in the tournament, but the 6/2, 7/6, 7/5 defeat to Djokovic may be the last for the 38-year-old star.
Speaking to Djokovic after the match, Nadal said: “It was a great competition and on a personal level you helped me give my maximum effort for almost 15 years, so thank you for that because without that I might not be the player I am now.”
He added: “It was a dream come true to be able to play for 20 years, and to have the opportunity to play in the best places in the world.”
For his part, Djokovic said: “I have great respect for you, an amazing athlete, and an amazing person.”
