The Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) shot down three Ukrainian Su-25 aircraft in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said on Tuesday, January 10, the official representative of the Russian Defense Ministry, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.
“Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down three Su-25 aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force in the areas of the settlements of Yasenovoe, Pushkino and Maksimilyanovka of the Donetsk People’s Republic,” he said.
In addition, the Russian army hit units of the 57th and 59th motorized infantry brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in the Donetsk direction. It is noted that up to 50 Ukrainian militants, one tank, two armored fighting vehicles and four vehicles were destroyed.
The department said that more than 20 Ukrainian soldiers and three pickup trucks were destroyed in the areas of Prechistovka and Zolotoy Niva of the DPR.
In addition, Konashenkov said that three warehouses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 62 artillery units in firing positions, manpower and military equipment in 105 areas.
Earlier, on January 9, the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Ukrainian Mi-8 helicopter and Su-25 and MiG-29 aircraft. The Russian military also destroyed three ammunition depots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the DPR and Kharkiv region.
On January 8, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that Russian troops thwarted an attempt to counterattack their positions by Ukrainian militants in the Donetsk direction, destroying up to 70 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On February 24, Russia launched a special operation to protect Donbass. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
