Sir Chhotu Ram Award to KCR
Who is the original Every Sir Chhotu Ram?
The peasants of Punjab mainly worship two figures. One is Sir Chhotu Ram and the other is Swaminathan. Born in 1881 in Punjab province in British India to Sir Chhotu Ram Jhat family. He was the co-founder of the National Unionist Party which ruled the United Punjab Province. He kept Congress and Muslim League away from his party. In view of the welfare of the farmers of Punjab who were falling into the hands of moneylenders, Sir Chhotu Ram worked to enact the Punjab Relief Debts Act in 1934 and the Punjab Creditors Protection Act in 1936. These laws subsequently brought significant changes in the lives of Punjab farmers. After that, Swaminathan significantly influenced the farmers of Punjab with the Green Revolution. Farmers of Punjab said that the person who influenced them was KCR. That is why this award is being given to CM KCR.
