Patiala. Balwant Singh Rajoana, who was awarded death sentence for his involvement in the murder of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995, was granted parole for 3 hours by the High Court on Tuesday. Rajoana has come out of jail this morning. He has been given parole for 3 hours to attend the last rites of his brother Kulwant Singh Rajoana.
On Tuesday, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had given three hours parole to Beant Singh murder case convict Balwant Singh Rajoana on Wednesday to attend his brother’s feast. High Court Justice GS Gill had issued these orders while disposing of Rajoana’s petition.
In his petition, Rajoana said that his brother Kulwant Singh Rajoana had died on November 14. He has a bhog at Manji Sahib Gurdwara in Rajoana Kalan village of Ludhiana on 20th November and he wants to attend it. Earlier, he had first applied for parole to the jail superintendent of Patiala jail where he (Balwant Singh Rajoana) is imprisoned, which was rejected.
Therefore, Balwant Singh Rajoana has filed a petition in the High Court demanding that he be granted temporary parole so that he can attend his brother’s bhog which is on Wednesday, 20th November. The court was told that till November 12, he was in custody for 28 years, nine months and fourteen days.
