The national football team has resumed training in preparation for the expected confrontation with its Qatari counterpart the day after tomorrow, at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, within the sixth round of qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The top priorities of the national team’s technical staff, led by Portuguese coach Paulo Bento, will be for the players to maintain their high readiness, and to work to address the shortcomings, gaps and negative points that appeared in the last match against Kyrgyzstan, which ended with the “Whites” winning 3-0, in addition to checking on their physical condition. For some players who were complaining of injury, such as defender Khalifa Al Hammadi, who was pulled from the field during the match, after feeling some pain.
The Iranian team leads the group standings with 13 points, while the Uzbek team is in second place with 10 points, and the UAE “White” team is third with seven points, equal to the Qatari team, which is in fourth place.
Pinto had met with the players after the Kyrgyzstan match, and seemed satisfied with the result and performance, after each player performed the duties and technical tasks requested of him, which led to the precious victory.
The current team roster includes 26 players, namely: Khaled Issa, Hamad Al-Muqbali, Ali Khaseef and Adly Muhammad in goalkeeping. And Mohammed Al-Attas, Khaled Al-Hashimi, Kwame Koidu, Khalifa Al-Hammadi, Zayed Sultan, Khaled Al-Dhanhani, Fares Khalil and Abdullah Idris in defense.
