The number of children injured in a crash involving a school bus in the Kholmsky district of southern Sakhalin has risen to seven. Two more adults were injured, which was reported on Friday, February 3, by the chief physician of the district hospital, Svetlana Mishchenko.
“Eight children were delivered after an accident. Five children clearly have some kind of damage. All eight children are now being examined by surgeons, traumatologists, neurologists, our medical psychologist has been invited, ”TASS quoted her as saying.
According to local authorities, the bus picked up the children in the morning from the villages of Pozharskoye and Pyatirechye to be taken to a school in the village of Chaplanovo. Children aged 7 to 16 were traveling in the car. All of them were fastened, and the driver kept the speed limit of no more than 60 km/h.
Earlier that day, it became known that a school bus, as well as a passenger car and two fuel trucks collided in the Kholmsky district. No one died as a result of the incident.
The Sakhalin administration said the regional education ministry had requested an urgent investigation into the incident. Emergency services and other specialists are on site.
The mayor of the city of Kholmsk, Dmitry Lyubchinov, volunteered to personally assess the situation and monitor the progress of the investigation.
