The air defense system (AD) shot down on Monday, January 16, seven unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) over the sea in Sevastopol. Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev announced this on his Telegram channel.
“In total, by this hour, the air defense forces and our Black Sea Fleet have already shot down seven UAVs over the sea. No objects either in the city or in the water area were damaged. I emphasize: all drones were shot down over the sea,” the governor wrote.
He urged residents of the city not to panic and not to believe Ukrainian media reports about supposedly sounding explosions in the city itself.
“Ukrainian TsIPs are trying to pass off this failed attack as yet another “overcome”. I declare that everything is calm in the Hero City. Our military confidently and calmly repulsed the attack of enemy drones on Sevastopol. The air situation is being monitored. All operational services are at the ready,” Razvozzhaev emphasized.
Prior to this, the air defense systems of Sevastopol shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle on the night of Christmas, January 7th. According to the governor of the city, the drone was eliminated over the Northern Pier.
In addition, Razvozhaev reported that two drones were shot down by an air defense system over the sea in Sevastopol near Belbek on January 4. On January 2, he also reported two downed drones.
The special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, continues. The decision was made against the background of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
