One of the most iconic moments for the general public on the day of the coronation of Charles III of England this Saturday should be the air parade of the Royal Air Force (RAF). However, those in charge of the famous British air force are preparing for a possible failure. If the weather forecasts come true, the Ministry of Defence and the RAF itself will make the decision to cancel the flight one or two hours before the initially planned plans.
The newspaper “The Times” reports that a gray and cloudy day with heavy rain is expected this Saturday in England and Wales. Computer models anticipate that clouds could drop to 200 meters. If this prediction comes true, the six-minute air show made up of more than sixty planes will be suspended in extremis.
This parade should have the participation of the RAF aerobatic group, the iconic Spitfiresspearhead of air combat against the Luftwaffe during the 1940 Battle of Britain, maritime patrol aircraft P-8A Poseidonfighters F-35B Lightning II fifth-generation transport aircraft of the Air Mobility Force and 16 helicopters. It will also be the first aerial participation of the new Envoy IV CC1 aircraft of the RAF, a Dassault Falcon 900LX incorporated last year into the British fleet.
This Saturday, squadrons of the RAF, the Army and the British Royal Navy would have to fly over the English capital while Carlos and Camila look out on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The first aircraft to blow up the royal residence will be a Shawbury RAF Juno HT1 helicopterpiloted by Flight Lieutenant Tom Knapp.
Even Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has expressed his expectation: “I am incredibly proud of our brilliant military personnel who are preparing to honor centuries of military tradition by taking to the streets, skies and seas to pay tribute to our new King and Queen. and commemorate the Coronation,” he said recently.
The planned air parade to cap off Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee last year was also canceled due to poor visibility.
