With the increase in summer heat, the prices of fruits and vegetables in the state are soaring. Lemon has seen a huge price hike. 150 to 160 rupees per kg. The reason for the increase in price is that lemons are not available as the demand increases.

In Kerala, lemonade and lime soda are the most expensive drinks in summer. Usually, the prices of fruits and vegetables increase in the state during summer. But this time with the heat of summer, there is already a huge demand for fruits, vegetables and various types of juices.

In the current situation, it is likely to feel the harshness of summer heat in the months of April and May as well. Because of this, it is expected that the price of lemons will increase further. Most lemons arrive in Kerala from the southern Indian states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

The price has more than doubled within a month. The price of lemon was around Rs 200 in the last month of April. Traders say that there will be further increase from the current price and the price will reach the level of Rs 300-400.

Already, prices of lemon soda and lemon water have increased in many places. If the price of lemon increases further, the price of lemons will have to be increased again. Lemon pickles are also widely sold in the state. Many businesses, including small and large enterprises, manufacture and sell lemon pickle. They are also exported to Gulf countries on a large scale. A sharp increase in the price of lemons will also lead to an increase in the price of pickles.

There has been an increase in the prices of lemons and other fruits as well. Watermelon, which costs the most in summer, has also increased in price. Now a kilo of watermelon costs Rs 30 per kilo. Watermelon mainly reaches Kerala from Gundalpet in Karnataka and Tindivanam in Tamil Nadu. The current price of orange, which is in high demand, is Rs 100 per kg.

With the increase in demand, the arrival of vegetables in Tamil Nadu also decreased. Traders said that with the arrival of Ramadan at the end of this month, the demand for lemons is likely to increase further.
