The order of Russian President Vladimir Putin to introduce the position of trainee doctor is an important initiative that will provide additional motivation for young professionals to stay in the profession more often. This opinion was expressed by the head of the educational and scientific cluster “Biomed” of the IKBFU. I. Kant, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Mikhail Agapov in an interview with Izvestia on February 1.
The Russian leader gave the corresponding instruction to the Ministry of Health following the meeting of the Council for Strategic Development and National Projects. It was entrusted to introduce the position of a trainee doctor until July 15, 2023, follows from a message on the Kremlin website. The measure will allow residency students to work in their specialty from the second year.
“In my opinion, this is an important initiative. It will provide additional motivation for young professionals to stay in the profession more often after graduation. The new position, which is being considered at the legislative level, will allow residents to participate in the treatment process on an equal footing with already experienced doctors. And this will help instill a sense of responsibility for the results of treating patients and smooth adaptation to the working environment of doctors from the very first steps,” Agapov emphasized.
In addition, as the specialist noted, this initiative will provide an opportunity to improve the financial situation of residents and accumulate seniority.
In December, the Russian leader announced the need to improve wages in primary health care. He also announced the appointment from January 1, 2023 of additional payments to primary health care workers and ambulances in the amount of 4.5 thousand to 18.5 thousand rubles.
