Algeria, neighbor at odds with Morocco for years, has made a special decision with the opening of its airspace with Morocco at a very delicate moment for the Rabat government and the Moroccan population. The Algerian regime broke ties with the Alouite kingdom two years ago and since then relations have cooled further.
In a gesture of good will, the Algerian authorities expressed their solidarity and condolences this Saturday for the death of more than a thousand people due to the earthquake that occurred overnight in Morocco and announced the reopening of their airspace for the sending humanitarian aid to the neighboring country.
The Government has regretted with “great sadness, the consequences of the violent earthquake that shook Morocco during the night,” according to a statement from the Algerian Foreign Ministry.
“Algeria expresses its deepest condolences and most sincere solidarity with the families of the victims with the brother Moroccan people, with the wish that the injured recover soon,” the text states.
In this sense, it has announced the reopening of airspace to transport humanitarian aid and transfer the injured, according to information from the Algerian news agency APS.
Furthermore, it has shown its “complete willingness to send humanitarian aid and deploy all its human and material capabilities in solidarity with the Moroccan people should they request it.”
