Manchester United said that team captain Bruno Fernandes avoided a three-match suspension, after the club’s appeal against the red card he received against Tottenham Hotspur was successful, and thus the Portuguese midfielder can participate against Aston Villa in the next match.
Bruno Fernandes (30 years old) was sent off during United’s 3-0 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford, in the 42nd minute, due to a strong challenge on midfielder James Maddison.
According to the penalty, Fernandes was supposed to miss Manchester United’s league matches against Aston Villa, next Sunday, and Brentford and West Ham United, before the red card was cancelled.
United said in a statement: “Bruno Fernandes will be available to enter the Manchester United squad for the next three local matches after accepting the appeal submitted by Manchester United against the penalty of excluding him with a red card.”
United ranks 13th in the league with 7 points gained in 6 matches.
