The Referees Committee of the English Premier League rejected the statements of German Jurgen Klopp, coach of Liverpool, that referee Paul Tierney behaved inappropriately during the match in which Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-3 on Sunday.
Tierney famously famous the yellow card in the face of Klopp because of his loud celebration in the face of the fourth referee, John Brooks, after Diogo Jota scored the winning goal for Liverpool in stoppage time, 99 seconds after Richarlison scored the equalizing goal for Tottenham.
During the post-match press conference, Klopp criticized referee Terney, accusing the match referee of speaking to him inappropriately.
But the Premier League Referees Committee said in a statement on Monday: Match officials in the Premier League are connected via a communications system during all matches, and having fully reviewed the audio recording of referee Paul Tierney, we can confirm that he acted in a professional manner throughout, including when Issuing a warning to the Liverpool manager, we therefore strongly reject any suggestion that Tierney’s actions were improper.
