A demarche was sent to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau demanding that he condemn the murders of Russian journalists Daria Dugina and Vladlen Tatarsky. On Tuesday, April 4, Oleg Stepanov, the Russian ambassador to the North American country, published a corresponding request on Twitter from the Russian diplomatic mission.
“Prime Minister Trudeau, are you a supporter and accomplice of terrorism? If not, you need to: 1. Make a clear condemnation of the murders of Maxim Fomin (aka Vladlen Tatarsky) and Dasha Dugina as a result of terrorist attacks. 2. Fire the Canadian Ambassador to the UN for justifying terrorism,” the post says.
The ambassador added that Russia and Canada may disagree on political and ideological issues. But the reality is that two Russian journalists died in the attacks. And Canada, as a party to the main international conventions on combating terrorism, must publicly declare whether it supports or condones the fight against terrorism.
Tatarsky died on April 2 as a result of an explosion in the Street Bar cafe on Universitetskaya embankment in the center of St. Petersburg, where he was holding a creative meeting with the audience.
An improvised explosive device was hidden in a figurine, which Daria Trepova, a participant in the event, handed over to the military commander. The suspect was detained. The court arrested her for two months.
During the incident, 42 people were also injured, including three teenagers. The condition of five people is assessed as serious.
On April 3, the criminal case on the explosion in the cafe was reclassified as a terrorist act. Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin put under control the investigation of the criminal case into the murder of Tatarsky.
This is not the first case of an assassination attempt on media persons supporting the Russian special operation in the Donbass. In August 2022, Daria Dugin, daughter of the famous philosopher Alexander Dugin, died. An explosive device was planted under the bottom of her car and went off when she was returning from the Tradition literary and music festival in the Moscow region.
