An attempt to carry out a terrorist act against Russian journalists and their relatives was prevented in Berlin. This was announced by the Russian Embassy on May 7.
According to the diplomatic representation, in the second half of May 6, a window was broken in one of the apartments. Later, a suspicious object was found hidden in the niche of the house.
Law enforcement officers, the fire department and sappers who arrived at the scene evacuated the residents and confirmed that the item was believed to be an improvised explosive device. After that it was deactivated. No harm done.
“The Embassy does not rule out that this egregious act may be directly related to the atmosphere unleashed in the Federal Republic of Germany of persecution of state-owned Russian media, which are indiscriminately accused of spreading disinformation and propaganda. Information and photographic materials about the place of residence of Russian journalists and members of their families, who were and continue to be threatened, were posted on social networks and published in the leading German media.
German police are investigating the incident.
In addition, the Russian embassy sent a note to the German Foreign Ministry with a demand to identify the perpetrators and ensure the safety of the work of journalists.
Also on that day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that the German authorities were obliged to investigate the attack in a residential apartment building where journalists from the Russian Federation live. As noted in the department, in what happened “there is a consequence of the persecution of the Russian media and their employees unleashed in the West.” The diplomats stressed that the decision to take Russian media off the air in the European Union “was a forerunner of their physical intimidation up to and including elimination.”
On April 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that the preparation of the murders of Russian media representatives is terror. According to him, the West is moving to such actions because it has lost in the information field. On the same day, it became known about the arrest of persons who planned the murder of some Russian journalists, including Vladimir Solovyov.
