The Russian Federation considers the military-biological activities carried out near the borders of the United States and its allies as a potential threat to the national security of the country. This was announced on February 7 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“The unacceptable situation in connection with the biological military activities of the United States and Ukraine on Ukrainian territory, which violates the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention (BTWC), which has become a blatant example, clearly demonstrates the importance of urgent steps to strengthen the BTWC,” she said on the website. Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Zakharova, it is important to create effective mechanisms to resolve such situations and prevent their occurrence, but the United States has been blocking the development of such a tool for more than 20 years.
In January, Vice Speaker of the State Duma, co-chair of the commission, Irina Yarovaya, said that at least 50 US biological laboratories on the territory of Ukraine were identified by a parliamentary commission to investigate them.
In November 2022, the UN Security Council did not approve a Russian resolution on an investigation into US biological laboratories. It is reported that Russia and China voted in favor of the resolution, while the United States of America, Great Britain and France opposed it, and nine other delegations abstained.
In September, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, Chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, said that the US delegation in Geneva, where the meeting of the BTWC member states was held, recognized biological research in Ukraine on low-income citizens and patients in psychiatric hospitals.
