“Leave me alone with my pain, today I want to drink because you are not here. And if I feel sorry, if I am going to suffer, no one console me, please. I won’t find you when I wake up. You know I really loved you. “I don’t want crumbs, I know you don’t love me, today I want to drink to forget,” says part of the lyrics.
Manuel Mantilla, 63, is also the creator of other successful songs such as ‘Traicionera’, ‘Pagarás (Humo del cigarro)’, ‘Serpiente’, ‘Quinceañera’, ‘Mentiras’, ‘El absent’, ‘No se puede to love two’, ‘You walk away’, ‘Seven nights’, ‘Dawn without love’, ‘Kisses of fire’, ‘The phone rings’, ‘Capricious’, ‘Unfaithful darling’, ‘You pretended you loved me’, ‘ Thank you’, ‘Tears of Frost’, ‘Come back to me’ and more.
How was ‘Take to forget’ born?
In an interview with La República, Manuel Mantilla said that he created ‘Take to forget’ between 1993 and 1994, between Lima and Trujillo, at a time when he made many trips to supply songs to many groups in the north. Like most of his creations, it was also born from a breakup, after he believed that he had finally found the love of his life, after so many disappointments in love.
“Sometimes it is difficult to find perfect and eternal love, there will always be a breakup and when a very beautiful story that I had broke up, heartbreak and loneliness entered my room,” says Mantilla.
The creator of ‘Take to Forget’ remembers that he locked himself in his room to pour out all the pain he felt on a sheet of paper and that he didn’t want anyone to console him, not even his mother. He even started drinking while he wrote.
‘To drink to forget’ reminds him of his mother
Manuel Mantilla assures that ‘Take to forget’ also has a lot to do with his mother Eufemia, who always wanted to be the first to hear his songs, so she could dance to it together with her son. At that time, his mother was already an older adult, in a wheelchair, and she realized the suffering of her son. “If you laugh, I’m going to laugh, and if you cry, I’m going to cry too,” the woman said, according to the musician.
Then, Mantilla’s mother asked her to interpret the entire song. “I grabbed the guitar and sang to him. In the end we both started crying. She told me: ‘The song is beautiful, this is going to be a goal.’ “A few months later, my old lady passed away.”Add.
Finally, Manuel Mantilla assures that ‘Take to forget’ is one of the 30 songs that he gave to Armonía 10, but he did not imagine that the song was going to be recorded by Ernesto Pimentel and that he was going to like it very much. Now, the man from Trujillo has plans to give the 53-year-old Peruvian comedian more songs to record.
