The Saudi Ministry of Interior and the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, in cooperation with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SADI), represented by the National Information Center, have started implementing the service of issuing and renewing residency on a quarterly basis, in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision approving the issuance of associated residencies. Work permits and their renewal on a quarterly basis, with the exception of domestic workers and the like, and splitting the collection of the value of the work permit, residence permit, and the financial compensation and fees necessary for obtaining residence permits.
The new mechanism will enable the employer to renew residency permits, work permits, and the financial compensation for varying periods between 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, as well as 12 months, according to what was previously applied according to the needs of the facility.
The mechanism aims at facilitating private sector facilities, enabling them to achieve cash management with a higher efficiency, and enabling facilities to renew worker licenses according to their actual need. In addition, this decision will support the growth of private sector facilities, contribute to the development of the labor market, enhance its attractiveness, and improve its environment. And giving the existing contractual relationship more flexibility, making it keep pace with global labor markets.
The General Directorate of Passports stated that this service can be used through the two platforms (Absher Business – Muqeem). In turn, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development clarified that this service can be benefited from, with regard to work permits, through the Qiwa platform and the electronic portal for labor services.
